There is no denial that an unacceptable gender gap exists between men and women in all strata of life in Bangladesh. The government and other relevant agencies have not been up and doing in addressing this burning issue concerning socio-economic and human development of the country so far. Sporadic attempts and declarations over the past decade or so, unfortunately, hardly succeeded in producing expected outcomes. The government declaration of “Digital Bangladesh” and “Vision 20121” etc. demand a major overhaul of the mindset of the education systems of Bangladesh with special emphasis on the IT education right from the primary to the tertiary levels of education in the country. As a neglected section of the population of the country, girls/women of Bangladesh deserve an approach of positive discrimination to their education and empowerment, which has been being encouraged by the government and other agencies involved in education and employment in this fast growing nation in the South Asian region of the world.
The aims of the project:
The project, Bangladesh Women in ICT, adheres to the principles that all agencies in the country agree with and is dedicated in involving women at all levels of the technology industry in order to create expected professional development through skills training, motivation, confidence-building, improving self-esteem and establishing networking opportunities for growth and development of girls/women in IT skills and knowledge in order for the female work-force of Bangladesh to be able to make meaningful contribution to the overall development of Bangladesh.
The main objectives of the project:
Empowerment of Women through ICT in Bangladesh
